Real Investments in Tomorrow

“We must move past special interests having an outsized say in our City’s spending and borrowing.  The future will require big, focused investments to create a better quality of life – becoming one city where you can live, work, and retire.”

Dear Friend:

Over the past few months, I have outlined my vision for A Safer City and Effective Leadership and Growing our Economy, three of four themes of my campaign. Today let’s discuss the fourth theme, Real Investment in Tomorrow

Answering where to invest limited resources begins with the tough decisions we must make to maintain an affordable cost of living.  It means we reduce inefficiences, leverage synergies across the City, and complete and maintain big impact projects that will help unleash the passions of our residents.

Smart investment requires prioritization, planning and execution.

  • Innovation: Support an innovation corridor stretching from NC A&T to the Nussbaum Center for Entrepreneurship.  It will be an important flagship for growth inside the city.
  • Transportation: Create a system that delivers inter-City services where they are most needed, while spurring investment.  Separately, joining with regional governments to provide services to areas where new jobs are being created.
  • Environment: Our most vulnerable communities have been hit the hardest by the impacts of extreme weather.  We must invest in our infrastructure utilizing modern technology to ensure all parts of Greensboro, including hard to reach and vulnerable communities, are protected from the impacts of extreme weather conditions.
  • Asset Management: The City owns many assets.  Many of them need maintenance and are no longer best use.  We will take a Maintain, Reimagine, or Sell approach to unlock hidden value for our City.
  • Social Services: We have many great non-profit services helping the needs of our most vulnerable.  We can have an even bigger impact by supporting an ecosystem that values more collaboration.

Greensboro has the raw material to emerge as one of the country’s great mid-sized cities.  But we can’t prosper as a doughnut hole of city-wide challenges surrounded by regional prosperity.  We must move past special interests having an outsized say in our City’s spending and borrowing.  The future will require big, focused investments to create a better quality of life – becoming one city where you can live, work, and retire.

We’re keeping the conversation going on our website, in public forums, and during canvassing.  Please join our campaign to help shape the future.

For Our Future,
