A Vote For Our Future (Part 2)

“My Your vote is for the person who will manage the inevitable change Greensboro will face over the next four years.  My record shows I am up to the challenge, and I am optimistic, that as change comes to the city we love, it will ring in a new era of promise and opportunity.”

Dear Friend:

Change is used to describe elections so often it has become a cliché.  Elections alone do not create change or stop it.  Change will come.  The question for Greensboro is how the people you elect foster and manage it.

I will bring a different type of leadership to the mayor’s office.  One that sees change coming and moves early to channel it in positive ways.  Meeting change with ideas, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude is an extension of the values my parents instilled in me. They are the principles that have guided me in my approach to public service.

  • Duke Law School taught me to break problems down to their essentials, assemble facts logically, and seek opportunities for agreement.  That training served me well as clerk to a Federal Judge, an attorney involved in corporate litigation in New York, and here in Greensboro at Brooks-Pierce.
  • As chair of Greensboro’s Minimum Housing Standards Commission, I learned that when opportunities for changes slow down, you work harder and speed up.  When the state did away with one of our most effective enforcement tools we adapted and cut the time to clear a minimum housing standards case from one hundred and eighteen days to forty-nine.
  • In the wake of unprecedented changes resulting from the protests of 2020, I worked to turn these events into an opportunity to strengthen relationship between Greensboro communities and the police officers who serve them.  Since joining the Council, I led the way on our first in the state body worn camera policy, anti-profiling measures, and support for commonsense reforms.  And I combined them with votes for better pay for police officers, acceptance of Federal Law Enforcement grants, and increased staffing.
  • I believe we must meet change with compassion.  As regional growth has come, I have worked to strengthen enforcement of housing codes, spoken out against a pennies on dollar settlement with a slumlord, and advocated for tax relief for elderly and low-income property owners.
  • Intentional, forward focused leadership is my goal.  I have called for the city to maintain an adequate emergency fund, spoken about the need to use ARP funds wisely to address transportation and job training, and helped write the city’s 2040 plan which would position us to deal with the environmental and infrastructure issues of tomorrow today.

Your vote is for the person who will manage the inevitable change Greensboro will face over the next four years.  My record shows I am up to the challenge, and I am optimistic, that as change comes to the city we love, it will ring in a new era of promise and opportunity.  Will you please entrust me with your vote for Greensboro’s next Mayor?

For Our Future,
